When Valerie Jones became an empty nester, she knew she wanted to spend her newly acquired free time volunteering and giving back. After almost a year of research, she fell in love with the mission of the SPCA of Texas, the private and independently funded nonprofit that provides love and care to homeless and neglected animals. Through training classes, Jones learned to assist in the surgery room, work with behavior training and provide excellent foster care.

Live to Give: SoupMobile - Room at the Inn

When most families are gathered in their comfortable homes, ready to celebrate the holiday season with their loved ones, Lisa Ernst and 2,500 SoupMobile volunteers spend Christmas Eve with the homeless. Partnered with the Omni Hotel, the SoupMobile welcomes 500 homeless men, women and children for a night of holiday cheer and heartfelt ministry in Dallas’ iconic luxury hotel. Lisa and her counterparts ensure that each person has a warm bed, several warm meals and plenty of fun. The guests are honored with a banquet, a movie night and a Christmas Eve church service.

Mac Robinson left his daughter almost 20 years ago to pursue his crack cocaine addiction. His journey took him to 21 different drug rehabilitation facilities, and he tried to commit suicide three times.

Today Robinson, 53, is sober and a student at the World Impact Bible Seminary with plans to open his own ministry to help other men on the street. And he is trying to be a father again, a part of the life of his now 26-year-old daughter.

Live to Give: Wounded Warrior Project - Service and Sacrifice

David Callaway refused to admit that he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. The hundreds of pounds of extra weight he carried and the fact that he was unable to leave his home or hold down a job did little to make him realize he was in crisis.

The Army veteran, who had been deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, now credits the Wounded Warrior Project with saving his life and family.
