As a young girl, Angela Fields lacked exposure to positive opportunities – something she’s devoted her life to changing on behalf of all underprivileged girls. Fields is the founder and executive director of Rae’s Hope, a nonprofit organization that provides life skills, fitness and education to underprivileged girls across Dallas.
In 2008, just as Fields was starting to build the foundation for Rae’s Hope, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. “It was hard for me, but the girls inspired me and kept me going,” said Fields.
For years as a volleyball coach and teacher, Fields saw that it was easier to teach life lessons on the court. Along with coaching volleyball, Rae’s Hope teaches nutrition, healthy living, conflict resolution, etiquette and financial literacy at four locations across Dallas.
Fields said these girls are like her own daughters. “My husband and I never had children, so we see these girls as God’s gift to us and we love each one of them.” raeshope.org
This month, we are pleased to shine the light on many of the servant leaders making our community better and stronger. And we do this not just also to thank them, but to inspire others to roll up their sleeves and help in some way. To learn more about #LiveToGiveThisHoliday, click here.
