Live to Give: CERT - Training for the Front Lines

12/15/2014

When disaster strikes, communities must be ready to respond. Doug Frazier makes sure there are people in place who know how to handle the unthinkable. An active member of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) since its first Dallas class in 2007, Frazier has served as an instructor for five years. He guides volunteers through 20 hours of training, including disaster preparedness, fire safety, search and rescue and medical operations.

“I’ve long believed that people are not generally prepared to deal with an emergency,” Frazier says. “I got into teaching because there was a void that I felt like I needed to fill.”

Graduates of the class are qualified to respond to disaster situations affecting their families and neighborhoods. They may also continue training and become part of a citywide CERT program, which can be called upon to respond across Dallas. Frazier and his team have responded to the devastating Lancaster tornadoes and countless other Dallas-area incidents, bringing lifesaving assistance in the most trying of times. dallascert.com

This month, we are pleased to shine the light on many of the servant leaders making our community better and stronger. And we do this not just also to thank them, but to inspire others to roll up their sleeves and help in some way. To learn more about #LiveToGiveThisHoliday, click here.
