As seen in the Wall Street Journal’s Mansions section:

Living with my family in China for several years was an extraordinary experience on so many levels. Seeing the extreme growth unfold, first-hand, and the complexity of issues associated with it was often mindboggling. The massive Chinese population mixed with a momentous amount of expansion presented challenges that, in turn, necessitated significant changes. Being able to observe this growth gave me an acute appreciation for the importance of infrastructure when it comes to real estate.

A good example is our office in Southlake, a business and family-friendly environment in one of the fast-growing areas in North Texas. In 2008, Forbes.com named it America’s most affluent neighborhood. Last year when we opened our office in Southlake, clients and employees endured the frustrations of navigating barricades, medians being built as well as the usual slowdowns and standard headaches associated with construction. It seemed like it would never end. The good news is that it’s all over, so getting around the area, and back and forth from Dallas, is a breeze. It was all just a momentary bump in the road, and a small price to pay for such incredible progress.

That leads me back to the point about infrastructure. Smart, strategic real estate planning is a critical component in the overall process. A good infrastructure is the cornerstone of a secure, productive community. It touches everything from efficient traffic patterns down to the quality of the materials used to build and maintain the roadways.

Another important part of this process is communication and making sure that neighborhoods understand timelines and progress points. In the real estate business, our job is to stay informed and up to date on essential elements about the region, city and neighborhood planning.

So the next time you’re slowed down because of a little road construction, think of it as a “plan in progress” – the kind that may help get over some of those short-term bumps, for a smoother ride over the long haul.
