Christy Berry, ARB, ALHS, GREEN, a Senior Vice President with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty, holds a Doctorate degree in Family Studies. That education and her experiences allow Christy to understand the emotional and financial challenges in buying and selling a family’s most important asset – their home.

Having remodeled several homes and condominiums near the Park Cities’ campus of Southern Methodist University, that experience gives her in-depth understanding of home construction. She knows what features are important to buyers and which features sellers should emphasize.

A long-time resident of Dallas and the Park Cities, Christy has bought and sold houses in value from $250,000 to more than $3 million. One home listed for approximately $2.7 million sold in one day because of her strong relationships with other agents and her ties throughout the real estate community.

We recently had the opportunity to sit with Christy for an exclusive interview! Read it below:

Update: What are a few of your current modern / contemporary listings?

Berry: I currently have 5618 Harbor Town Drive and 13731 Danvers Drive listed in the MLS. I also most recently had a buyer for the popular 1999 McKinney, a loft-style condominium in the heart of Uptown.

Update: What do you think should be the #1 consideration when searching for a modern home?

Berry: I think it’s important to find that balance between light and open and warm and cozy so my number one consideration when looking for a modern home is walls of windows that allow as much natural light in as possible, not a lot of trim and moldings, and easy spaces.

Update: What is your favorite aspect of Modern Design?

Berry: My favorite aspect of modern design is the contrast you see between the clean lines of a building against nature— a great modern architect can blend the indoors with the outdoors and that’s when I most appreciate the methodology behind it all.

Update: Who is your favorite local modern interior designer or architect?

Berry: Hands down, Lionel Morrison is one of the most influential modern architects and we are fortunate to have him here in Dallas. A couple of his projects include One Arts Plaza and The Art House.

Update: What street or neighborhood do you think could be considered a modern enclave in Dallas?

Berry: 3 areas come to mind: Greenway Parks, the Disney Streets, and Oak Cliff.

Update: What are you seeing in the modern real estate market for 2013?

Berry: There will always be a market for contemporary homes— right now we’re seeing a peak of interest for mid-century moderns. Dallas has also had a huge influx of Californians in addition to people moving to the area from and Frisco and Plano areas, looking for a more central location and energetic atmosphere.

Update: What is your favorite piece of modern art?

Berry: Alberto Giacometti‘s bronze pieces— I think the fragility and isolation they convey is beautiful.
